Dan Smith

fromtheeditr is a blog by Dan Smith an award-winning journalist in Roanoke, Va.

Smith is a member of the Virginia Communications Hall of Fame, a former Virginia Business Journalist of the Year, as well as a winner of awards for the arts, environment, education and ethics. His awards have come from local, regional, state, national and international organizations.

He is an author (7 books, including the novel CLOG! and the memoir Burning the Furniture), photographer and Public Radio essayist.

He is a father (Evan and Jenniffer) and grandfather (Madeline and Oz). He co-founded Valley Business FRONT magazine, was editor of the noted Blue Ridge Business Journal for more than 20 years and was the founder of the Roanoke Regional Writers Conference. He has worked at daily and weekly newspapers and magazines and has been a freelance writer for many publications.

This blog was begun in October of 2008 at Blogspot and much of it remains at fromtheeditr.blogspot.com. However, in early 2017 all posts (nearly1,400 of them) were erased, making this WordPress move necessary.
